: Born to loners in wetlands, Veery was a kit that was naturally drawn to the river banks. Her family had lived in the territory for many generations and had adapted to the environment, and young Veery had been no different. She had learned to hunt the many fish that populated the river shallows, valuing patience and quick motions to make her catches. As the seasons progressed and Veery had aged, it came time for her to leave her birth-den behind to make room for her mother's coming litter. While the place she had first settled was not very far, there was a sharp decline in the amount she had seen her family, and Veery grew lonely.
The demands of day to day survival did not allow for time to visit, and as Leaf-bare reached its height, the task of survival became too difficult for Veery on her own. Initially she had tried to seek out her mother, but she had been turned away, as Veery would doubtlessly further strain her mother's already limited resources. Rejected, Veery had set out to where she knew she could find a simpler, safer life: twolegplace. For countless moons, she had lived in the comfort of a home, and she had never again needed to worry about when she would be able to next eat.
It was a life that was equal parts easy and boring. There was a freedom to it, as Veery no longer had to dedicate so much of her day to getting her next meal, but with it came a restriction. Before, she had borders built out of hunger. Now, she had borders of a much more literal sense. Eventually, Veery's desire for something new would outweigh her want for an easy, carefree life, and she would make her great escape, returning to the land of her birth.
Upon her arrival, she would find it occupied by a group of strangers, her mother and siblings nowhere to be found. Still, the reason Veery had left this land was to seek company and comfort, and the reason she had returned was to seek adventure and freedom. Living with this group could provide her with both: she would not need to live day to day with the aid of so many others, and she would not need to worry about growing so lonely as she had before.
Among RiverClan, Veery earns the name Veerycloud, and desperately she wants to make her clan proud. Veerycloud finds herself uncertain more often than not around her new clanmates, however, as she had grown up only with the company of her mother and her siblings, and her time spent as a kittypet was time spent without any contact with another feline.
